Abba and Post Punk Volvos

Posted by Lasse on September 7, 2007

Somehow there is no way getting round it. If you are from Sweden then your’re just bound to be measured and referenced to Abba. This time its the BiBaBiDi music blog:
“Yes, to me, Strangers In Wonderland is the perfect melding of post-punk and the out-of-date disco-pop sleaze of the world’s biggest band, Abba.”
Not that we mind really. On the contrary, Abba was always there in the background when we grew up. On the school dance, softly playing, when kissing for the first time in a dark corner. Or distorted blasted from some radio when trying to get drunk on cider behind school. We like Abba, and then maybe not, but there is no way to escape. It’s to late. They are forever imprinted in our brains.
Which could account for the kind words from The Culture of Me:
“Thank goodness for honest, purely not contrived sweet Swedish pop.”
Yes we would very much like to be that. Thanks.

And at last, what about the Volvos. Very Swedish indeed. And obviously no way to escape the m. GD at the Bite Size Bonus Podshow (and he is our podcaster god) has seen to that:
“Strangers in Wonderland, the best thing that has come out of Sweden since the Volvo”

And with those lucid words words ringing in my ears I’m off to do some shopping. In my Toyota of course.
